7000 rpm's, sound like a small hair dryer.

I would like to take the cheap way out and just get a quieter fan to attach to this heatsink.

What is a good option?

Thanks,

Rick

Since there is only 1 Thermaltake Volcano, this shouldn't be too hard to figure out...

I think he's talking about the Thermaltake 7/7+/9. A good quiet fan would be a Panaflo L1A or NMB from SVC.com, but your temperatures will most likely go up. I would recommend those fans with a Thermalright SK-7.

Get an adaptor compusa sells them for a bigger fan keep the heatsink though, if u got a 7, those are very nice heatsinks :). Stick a vantec stealth on it, and you'll never know it's there!

I have a 7, and it goes down to 2600rpm on cold nites here in soCali. it's usually the rest of the system's fans that annoy me though. i have a cooler master havc81 and that thing roars in my other pc when it's turned up.

I know this isn't the cheapest solution, but I recently replaced my Volcano 9 with a Thermalright SLK-800 with a Vantec Stealth fan. The difference in noise is unbelievable, and the processor is actually 2C cooler than it used to be with the jet turbine on it.

I also have a Volcano 7+ in my other machine, with the 3-way fan speed switch set to low. It keeps the Tbird 1.4 at about the same temp as the SLK-800 on my XP 2100+, and is decently quiet.
