Well my clock in vista ultimate 64 bit keeps falling behind a couple of minutes. not sure when exactly it happens, or if it happens over time.

any reasonable explanation/fix?

If it has any effect, I used a cd-key I bought legit, but I installed using a downloaded copy because I only had the 32 bit disc.

Usually time issues like this are caused because your CMOS battery needs changing. How old is the PC? Greater than 3 years?

Hmm, usually a CMOS battery dying just causes the machine to lose its date and time information with a power-down, not lose time synch.

If replacing the battery doesn't help, one thing to do might be to increase the polling interval which determines how frequently MS synchs with a time server.

Change the setting in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Controlset001\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient

Edit the entry "specialpollinterval" change the base from hex to decimal and you can set how frequently Vista will synch with an internet time server in seconds. Changing it to every 12 hours will probably do the trick for you -- 43200 seconds. The default setting is one week (604800 seconds)
