Well, I got my new MSi GF3 Ti200 today, its really cheap, Doesn't come with any ramsinks, and didn't even come with a fan! Comes with a decent sized generic heatsink, So i shoved an old fan on there, and now its running fine and dandy.
The card runs pretty hot (not sure how it compares to others), but rather, a touch with my finger on the ram itself, or the back of the core, I could only hold it there for a second, before having to move my finger from getting burned. The Heatsink on the fan feels pretty cool, as i can hold my finger there as long as i want.
Now, I could overclock this baby to 240/544, I was impressed, considering the cheap cooling I have on it, and the fact its not a gainward golden sample. Anything higher though, is a crash. Though, at first, I got artifacts in 3d mark, but it did not crash. I played a little bit of Jedi Knight with it, and no artifacts at all, I try 3d mark again later, no artifacts. Crashed a twice on me randomly, so I decide to bring it down...
Being a little hesistant, I clocked the card back down to 200/500, as I have no real need to clock it that high, other than benchmarks. I'm debating my cards max overclock... is it running too hot? The memory seems to be stable at 544, though I do question the corespeed at 240. I want to get the most out of my card, and I'm sure it'll run stable if I lower the clock to 230/544. But how long will the card last at those speeds?
I hear alot of cards have died within a month or two (espically ti200s), is it because of a mobo (I remember people claiming there mobo killed there card) or overclock? I'm a bit confused on that part.
Do you think my card is running too hot? I want to get the most out of it, but I don't want the thing to fry within a month. I need this thing to last me at least a year, until I get off my lazy self, and get a job.
Should I invest in Ramsinks or a Orb of some type? Or is my HSF enough? The Fan is quite decent, and the heatsink is quite cool, though I could take it off, and put some thermal paste in.
Ramsinks are expensive.I really don't have alot of money, and I figure I could make my own (chop up some old heatsinks, and start hammering on some pennies, all copper
), and attach via epoxy of some sort...
I wouldn't mind paying 15 or so bucks for a Orb of some type, but is it worth it? Would it be any better than my HSF combo i got going on?
Is there a big difference between ramsinks you buy, or ones you can make at home? (I'm sure there is, but is it worth $20+?)
Also, lets say, i use an epoxy to attach the heatsink and ramsinks, can it be removed incase i need to remove it? Or is there another way I could attach the fans and heatsinks?
What do you recommend? Keep in mind, I'm on a budget, and Its summer time, I have plenty of free time to be "creative" about things.
Thanks...
