Im not sure if im completly correct on this, but doesn't S-video also carry the sound information?? If I was going to connect my computer to my AV Receiver. Would it be better to use just this S-video cable for video and sound? or use the Radeon just for video to the system, and use my sound card for the sound transfer. I have an Audigy OEM,Radeon 8500 REtail, and a Sony Receiever. Also a TV with only RCA inputs.

What would be the best way to connect my systems together?
My Receiver is the STR-SE591 500w System. Has optical, digital coax, rca input and outputs. IS DTS,DD ready. Has 5.1 speaker system attached.

I was thinking of using a COAX cable, and a mini adapter from the Audigy Digital out and sending it to my system for surround sound, when I play DVD's on my system.(USing Windows XP so it should work)

As for the video I would send it from my computer through S-video cable? to the receiver. There, I would just have the video from the receiver output it through a RCA connocter to my TV. IS this wise? or should I send the video line strait to the TV. Which one would give less distortion.

Computer--Receiver 12ft.
receiver-TV 3-4ft
Computer-TV 14 FT

Any Audio/Video Experts out there care to help me with the best configuration?
I hope I explained my setup well enough. Cables cost alot, and I want to know exactly how I want to run what, before I go out buying them.
3 sites I have looked through
http://www.svideotorca.com/
http://www.cablestogo.com/
http://www.bestbuy.com

I was hoping to play DVD's through computer and have surround sound on my system while watching it on TV.
As well as being able to use the speaker setup for Counterstrike.?

I would be gratefull for any kind of advice. I know this is a lengthy post but Plz Try

does your tv have an s-video input?

NO, s-video does NOT carry sound. just video.

For audio, your best bet is the following:

get a 1/8 inch MONO male to female RCA adapter at radio shack. plug it into a normal rca cable (one side of the cable is all you need)

run that right into the coaxial digital input on your receiver.

As far as video, if your tv has s-video in, then running it straight from video card is your best bet.

if your tv doesn't, then you might have more difficulty....let me know and we'll see wha twe can figure out

Nope. It only has RCA in. No S-video.
I hear haveing S-video-RCA adpaters mess up the quality.
I was thinking of using an S-video to my Receiver. Than from Receiver I can send it to TV with RCA

so your receiver has s-video switching?

to tell you the truth, i'm *not* sure if you can take s-video and switch it to composite within the receiver...i thought it might just switch composite (rca) or s-video...not convert between the two.

i would suggest testing it out before investing in a super long s-video cable.

i don't have any experience personally with s-video to rca converters...so i can't speak for their quality.

so the only output you have from your video card is s-video eh?
