its going to be very YMMV. I can post the chat log from when I asked to get mine swapped. Tmo's official answer is that they are not swapping out Vibrants because of GPS issues.

Sure, go ahead and post it. I have the card of the manager guy who sold me the vibrant. Should I maybe just contact him next week?

I'm definitely going to wait. It launches on the 6th, so I plan on going in as soon as I can after that.

You have been connected to _Cassandra B.
_Cassandra B: Hi josh , welcome to T-Mobile live Chat. I’m _Cassandra and I will be happy to assist you. Please give me a moment to review your question.
_Cassandra B: I see that you are chatting about the GPS not working on the phone. I will be happy to help you today because I understand the importance of the phone working properly.
rudeguy: thanks!
_Cassandra B: You are welcome.
_Cassandra B: What is happening with the GPS on the phone?
rudeguy: Google maps can never get a fix on me and when I tested the GPS with an app, it could only locate 2 statelites.
_Cassandra B: This issue is related to how the device software is handling the signals received via AGPS and GPS satellites.
_Cassandra B: To improve location accuracy, you may enable wireless network use to enhance location determination.

From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap Settings.
Tap Location and security.
Tap Use wireless networks.
Tap Agree.
rudeguy: I tried that already :(
_Cassandra B: There is no other way to fix the GPS on the phone.
_Cassandra B: Was it working properly at all after those settings were set in the phone?
rudeguy: no ma'am. Google maps still couldn't find me and neither could tasker. I use those 2 programs a ton so its really making me unhappy
_Cassandra B: I understand and I use navigation as well.
rudeguy: Here is my issue: I spent a lot of money on this phone and its really not suiting my needs even though it was supposed to. Is there any way you could authorize a swap for a different model that has working GPS?
_Cassandra B: I am unable to provide you a different phone at no cost.
rudeguy: Even though I have insurance and its well within the phone's warranty period?
_Cassandra B: This is a known issue with the phone and there is not an option to exchange the phone.
rudeguy: so what are my options?
_Cassandra B: At this point in time, you would be able to use the current phone or purchase a new phone. There is not a way for me to provide you a phone at no cost for you.
rudeguy: I understand if you can't do that. I was simply asking what Tmobile recommends I do. I bought a $500 phone that doesn't work. I've been patient and waited for a fix since the phone is brand new.
_Cassandra B: There is a possibility of the phone to have a software update to the phone, however, there is currently no timeframe.
rudeguy: and my question remains. What is Tmobile recommending I do?
_Cassandra B: I recommend to wait to see if a software update is sent to the phone.
rudeguy: Ok. Thanks
_Cassandra B: Is there anything else we can assist you with today?

I have the Captivate (ATT) and that OTA update they pushed did absolutely nothing for a lot of people (XDA forums has endless threads about this issue). That includes 2 Captivates I have. So I wouldn't expect much if you eventually get a fix. I'm going to try and replace mine where I bought it this weekend. Maybe I'll have better luck with it.

This is absolutely the biggest BS.
I have had nothing but praises for the Galaxy line but Samsung got to get their sh!t together.
How in the hell a can Samsung not fix this by now if its just a driver issue ??
In comparison, pretty much all the complains about the EVOs have been fixed.
At this point, its pretty much time for the consumers to say f**k Samsung.

Well, apparently samsumg had an update on kies yesterday that was pulled.and t-mobile posted and urged vibrant users not to use the kies update and to wait the ota. Seems like tmo is now to blame as samsung tried.

Ha! What epic bullshit. In the UK I'd rock up to a store, state it's not fit for purpose and get my money back.

Samsung posted on their FB page to download and try out the update. There were a ton of people on XDA who bricked because of it.

Grrrrr...........

Samsung support has sucked forever and I am not surprised it hasn't changed. They had the oppertunity to change their reputation with the release of these popular phones but they have failed miserably. Their support has been horrible ever since the Instinct. The Moment had a busted GPS from the word go, obviously they didn't learn from that mistake. The Epic has a busted upload limit at 150kps. Just a few of the reasons I will never own a Samsung phone no matter how nice the specs.

So I just unlocked a Vibrant and am using it on AT&T. The GPS icon always "searches" but never really finds a connection. This is on Google Nav, some games that require GPS, etc.

I am assuming that this is the same GPS problem that other Galaxy S users are experiencing?

Blah... I really like the Galaxy S... but if there really is no ETA on a GPS fix, I think I'll go with G2. I love the SAMOLED, but with the GPS issue and no 2.2...
