i have recompiled now a few times, adding usb-hid into the kernel and making usb-uhci a module, and loading it, still to no avail. i thought i needed "usbmouse" but it is nowhere to be found in menuconfig.

w/o my mouse, i will never get X working, and w/o X working, i will not be using linux very much!!!!! (except for trying to FIX this, and being stuck using links and/or lynx............🙁🙁🙁🙁)

btw the kernel is 2.4.16

i have no ps/2 converter 🙁

no, i've looked in /proc/bus/usb, there is nothing there 🙁

oh and on boot up, or if i disconnect/reconnect the mouse, it recognizes it with the correct name and everything, but it's all talk and no action 😛

you sure it would work on any usb mouse?

that'd be real nice of you to send me one, provided it would work😛

i have a ps/2 mouse but it is a reeeeeally generic mouse that i refuse to use because it feels so horrible that it literally makes the computer seem crappier (no joke, it feels like total junk)

if only logitech would have been nice enough to give me one of those adapters in the first place....where did you get all of yours mojo??? you must buy alot of mice or somethin.

or......you might be in on some mouse smuggling operation.....hmm.....😛

I got one with my logitech mouse, but since I use it on my Mac I lost it a while ago. Well that and BSD has had usb support for a while longer than Linux 😉

Ive also got a *REALLY* generic and crappy mouse hooked up to my systems. Works for me.

i got one with every usb mouse i've bought, so i think i have 3 in total.
PM me and i'll stick one in an envelope.

Well the same problem here with slackware 8 and kernel 2.4.16.
I have usb mouse and modem...well I have to use my converter to ps/2 4 the mouse.

BUT what is gonna happend to the modem ...Is there any usb/something converter that can make it detectable to any linux..???
🙂 if not...anyone that manage to detect it ?

well when the os boots it never detects it. i checked dmesg nothing . .

I think linux tries to keep us away from using it...
lol

USB + linux = difficult 😉

i had the same problem. the default redhat kernel detected and setup my
USB mouse fine, but the latest kernel didn't.

i ended up getting it working by making /dev/mouse into a soft link to one
of the USB devices....don't remember which, because i started using a PS/2 KVM
switch, so i didn't have to worry about it anymore.

check out the USB howto....but i think i figured it out from looking at what the
redhat kernel did or something....along with the howto.
