I was using my mouse on the USB port like I normally do, then my computer froze.
I restarted and I got a message that there was no mouse on the serial port and I need to restart.
I shut down, and put the mouse in the serial port with the adapter that came with the mouse and boot up. The boot up took like 2 minutes longer than usual and this long boot up keeps happening.
I tried moving the mouse to the USB port and that only results in me having to put the mouse back in the serial port and restart my machine.

Are you actually plugging it into the serial port or are you putting it back into the PS2 port where it belongs? Why is it so important to you to have it go through the USB prot anyway. I guess that's beside the point. Have other USB devices been working or are they all failing? If others are working, it sounds like it's your mouse, but if none work, it sounds like you need to work on the resources dedicated to your USB controller.

I have to put it in serial for it to work. I dont have any other USB devices. How would this just happen out of the blue?

They actually gave you a USB to serial adapter? That's incredible I never seen one of those and I didn't even know they made them. You don't have any other USB devices, hmmmm. Go to your computer settings and check what it looks like under USB in the hardware. You do this in Win 98 by going through the conrtol panel and then double clicking on computer and clicking on the hardware tab and then scolling down to USB and opening the branch if it is closed. Or right click on My Computer and select properties (then continue from above). Are there any problems/conflicts there?

Now, a couple of stupid questions, did you try what I said before and what did you see? Also, I though Microsoft made the Intellimouse. Logitech makes the Mouseman and the FirstMouse. I have seen a Mouseman recently that is USB with a PS2 adapter (not serial). Serial mice have not been used for a long time (they were phased out before ATX boards, your BX for example, started).

it's the mouse with the laser eye and it's blue and made my logitech. when I got it, I plugged it into the USB port on the mobo and windows identified it and installed it. Now my computer doesnt recognize USB I think. I tried putting it in the second USB port and my mouse does nothing. There is power to the mouse though cuz the light is on. When I put on the serial adapter it works on the serial port.

Still confused about that serial adapter. I am relatively CERTAIN that a mouse that new would ONLY plug into USB and PS2. The PS2 is a little round connector with like a light green or light purple color (I think the purple is keyboard and mouse is green, or is it the other way around?). That is beside the point, but have you check the hardware settings like I asked two posts ago?

Well, what is in there? There s/b two different things like a controller and a hub or something like that.

there is a hub and a controller (intel)

under the power properties of the hub, it says this device is NOT working properly.

Looks like that's the problem. Try removing and rebooting to see if it will reinstall itself or try reinstalling the drivers for it.

I removed the hub, and restarted my computer with the mouse in the serial port.
The hub was detected and reinstalled. The device was now "working properly" but when I moved my mouse to the USB slot, nothing happens :-(

I restarted with my mouse in the USB slot and the device was not working properly.

Okay, next step is to have the system boot with the mouse in the PS2 port and uninstall all of the Logitech mouseware (it might be a good idea to download the latest version from their website for you mouse also) and then remove the hub in device manager and then restart. The hub should reinstall itself with no conflicts. Now plug the mouse into the USB port and see what happens. It should immediately start trying to detect new hardware. You can probably install it as a generic usb mouse or something like that and you might need to reboot. When you are back on, hopefully the mouse will work in its basic functions and you can install the latest version of mouseware to get the added features.

I had an Abit SA6R and use a Logitech optical mouse. When I flashed the board to the latest bios the mouse and keyboard suddenly quit working about a day later.. I tried everything to get it working but no help. I flashed back to the previous bios and all started working fine again.. dont know if this is any help but thought Id toss it in.

Sorry, I assumed you had Logitech Mousewear installed so you could just uninstall that. Other than that, is there a mouse spot in your device mmanager that you could delete. Oops, never mind that would disable the one you are using on the PS2 not the USB. I'm not sure...
