My url bar in IE stopped working, what gives?

I type a url and hit enter and abosolutely nothing happens. Not even the hourglass cursor, the browser stays on the same page. Now, if I click the link on a page or type a url and hit cotrol+enter IE properly loads the site. Anyone seen this before?

virus/spyware/malware.. i had it a while ago.. ad to use something like "killbox" to remove..

Do you have HP software and Automatic Updates turned on?
