My unusual cpu problem after unlocking xp1600..

It's so weird. At first when I unlocked it with an unlocking kit, it wouldn't let me change the multiplier in the bios (if I attempted to, it wouldn't boot). However, it did boot automatically as an xp1700 on default bios settings (multiplier and bus). So I basically changed it into a locked xp1700 somehow. I didn't mind anymore so I left it alone. It's been about 2 years now, and recently when I boot, it often starts as 'xp1900' then locks up. Anyone have a clue what's goin on?

I suspect your 'unlocking kit' isn't working correctly/ isn't installed correctly or you used the wrong kit for the chip.

I suspect that the second option is the most likely here because it is changing. The vibration that you get in a PC is working the kit - whatever you used loose causing it to alter its effect.

The reason why it isn't working at xp1900 is probably because the chip can't handle that sort of overclock, certainly not unless you put a bit more voltage across it.

Edit: Also these earlier xp's were modded using the bridges on the top of the cpu package.
You might find that some HS compound has 'leaked' down there. When I first overclocked an athlon that is how I inadvertainly unlocked it. Many moons ago now though.
