I don't believe it's only limited to KaZaA.. Any bandwidth out of IE is pretty much slow.. (multiplayer games, console DL progs like KazaA)

I Can DL through IE.. strange eh? Any other music progs I should try that might work??

I'm sure there's some way to reroute the ports so that kazaa goes through port 21 or 80 or 8080 or something your school lets through.

My stupid roommate mentioned this today- can you give us more details?

Direct Connect is a p2p program that works similar to IRC in that you join individual hubs rather than are connected to everyone. You can search the hub, search individual users, and whatever. The best hubs usually require that you share a certain amount with a certain amount of slots open.

It's a decent program, I like it. Learn more about it here Direct Connect

Yea, its good. Has pretty much everything, but it does take longer to download compared to Kazaa, if you're doing only a few random songs. But if you're looking for full albums and high quality stuff then it's really good.

There's a thing called Direct Connect ++ or something.....heard it was better, but haven't tried it.

I need help too. UL and DL in both WinMX and Direct Connect slow to less than a kb/s. DSL reports says my connection is as fast as ever. What do I need to tweak?

I second HTTP-Tunnel. It routes all of Kazaa's traffic through port 80. It's slower, but when you're desperate, you're desperate.

Direct Connect is good :) I can find alot of material with it that I can't find on Kazaa for example. And the hubs are usually centered around certain theme (Anime, scifi etc) and the selection within that theme is usually very good.

proxy is out of the question because i don't got any external hookups :(

My University suffers from the same problem. Everyone is on the bloody network downloading so a lot of packets get dropped witch translates to unstable ping and a slow connection.

A trick I used was to log into the SCHOOL'S proxy. You might want to look into that... most schools have time and will let you access them if you have the right pass. Using the school's proxy made a world of difference since at my school the bandwidth going out to the internet was alotted a certain way. It might be worth a try to find out if your school allows students to use the proxy server.

Perhaps you should consider not using any P2P programs. It's obvious your school doesn't want you too. When people abuse the school's network by d/ling movies and mp3s, they're choking out the people who are trying to do legitimate educational work.

Wait until you graduate and can buy as much bandwidth as you want.

its called the "get into your car (or take a bus or somthing), go to the nearest music store, and buy a CD so that you don't get kicked off your university's network by doing somthing they don't want you to do" version 3.4 :)
