As an addendum, I had the flu a few years back and kept expecting, as a healthy 20-something, for it to run it's course and blow over. A week goes by and I'm having difficulty breathing - head to the doc and it's progressed to pneumonia. It might have killed it if I'd left it go another day or two.

Get shots; don't be shy about seeing a doctor.

how can you tell the difference b/w a flu and a very bad cold ? I've been coughing and congested like crazy this past week, but dont feel too bad, haven't missed work on anything.

Yeah... sometimes people play things off as not a big deal when in fact they are. My dad never saw a doctor about things to do to help correct his blood pressure (medication, etc). I'd say you could ask him how he's doing now, but he's dead 😛. Although, I'm probably just as bad about shrugging things off.
