nope

Does $2000 for the audio sound about right?

Kind of hard to tell depending on whether you got all the stuff new or not or got in on hot deals.

When it comes to audio, you really can't buy what someone else buy and expect to like it as much as the other person. It depends on your taste. Different receivers/amps have different tonal characteristics, or personality. There are Klipsch speakers that cost more than 2Gs a pair and mirage Sonus Faber or Vienna Acoustic speakers that cost well over 4Gs a pair. It depends on what you like. The best thing to do is go out and "listen" to the ones in your price range and choose from there. Oh, and receivers are the same way. For example, yamaha receivers will have a brighter sound, while denon's will have a warmer sound. I would say yamaha has a pretty stable and solid power, and so do the denons no doubt. But the difference is what tonal quality your looking for. It doesn't annoy me, but when I worked sales, I disliked it very much when a customer comes in saying I wanna spend this much, what is the best I can get for that price. It depends alot on what music you listen to and what kind of sound you like. Sorry to get off subect

Oh and guys, if there's anyone looking for any home A/V equiptment around the Houston Area, PM me the model you guys are looking for. I still have a few friends working at the old store that can still maybe get some good prices. Not accomodation prices of course, but pretty good deals

Jeez... I was just trying to take a guess at how much it cost.

My set was about $2750 for the audio but if I bought everything new / not on sale it would have been about $3300.

I've listened to some Vandersteen 5As that cost $14,700/pair, so you don't need to tell me that there's expensive stuff out there.

I took a guess he spent about $400 on the receiver, $130 on the soundcard, about $1200 on the speakers, and the rest was shipping/tax/me rounding up to a nice number.

F2s are $600/pair msrp
C1 is $180
sub is $300
rears are $180/pair

If he got in on Best Buy deals or a package discount, this could be significantly lower. I don't know how low they got at Best Buy, but I was trying to give a general estimate so people could see what a certain amount of money could get you in general.

I seriously douby AgaBoogaBoo was about to go out and get the exact set that was just bought by Stangs55 if he happened to have $2000.

I think you took what I said the wrong way. I didn't mean anyting negatvie about what I said. Actually, looking back at it, I read his statement the wrong way too. I was thinking he was asking if 2Gs was enough for a decent system, and I answered back advising him to listen to which speakers he llikes and not by what others say to get.

Alright.

I understood it as Stangs55 built a nice new athena system... then AgaBoogaBoo wanted to know how much everything was... then Stangs said he didn't know... so I took a stab at it taking close to retail prices for how much it would be.

Then I thought you were giving me a lecture that speakers sound different and there is a wide range of budgets... and I was almost annoying you stating a dollar amount on how much I thought that system was worth.

So I tried to explain where my figures were coming from...

Here's a guestimate on the prices.

Reciever was refurbished from ecost for ~350
F2 - 500
C1 - 180
Sub - 300
Rear - 180

Comes to about $1600 for only the audio after you add speaker wire and such. And I only paid taxes on the Rears and Center.

(Yoyo was just about right on)
