Computer, boombox, portables, car, entertainment center.........all the different ways to play music..............all MP3 or CD. I'll bet it's even getting tougher to find tape decks at all.

She was looking at it like it was supposed to have an "on" switch and light up or something. :)

I still got a tape deck in my car from years ago when they were still partially relevant. I also have a stereo tape deck that's been collecting dust for a while, so it could be done. You could get one for dirt cheap from a pawn shop / garage sale.

I still have a pair of functioning tape decks in my old stereo I've had since I was a teenager. It's in my basement / workout room hooked up to my HTPC. Not that I've listened to a casette in the last decade, but I could :p

I bought a dual deck Sony just for transferring some old Loveline episodes to my computer. It was $40 at a local pawn shop. You can just see it down there under all that stuff.

I still have demo tapes from a few years ago when I was DJ'ing. I still have the stereo unit that I connected to my mixer to record them, too, so naturally I can play them back.

My stock stereo in my van has CD and tape deck in-dash.

I still have like 3 cassette players, as well as 4 VCR players. I think if I dug enough, I might find some Super 8 stuff.

What do you mean you don't have a cassette player? Have you looked underneath your record player?

I remember in the early 80's when my kids drug home a box of 8-track tapes someone at a yard-sale had given them...They were pretty disappointed that we had no way to play them.
GAWD! That makes me feel old...I remember when 8-tracks were the bomb!

I'm finding more and more audio books going to CD now and not even an audio tape option, especially now that newer cars (at least all the ones I know of) no longer come with tape decks.

Of course it really is a shame they have to use so many discs for audio books when compression (mp3 or whatever format) can easily fit just about any size book (unabridged to boot) onto one disc seeing as you can go to town with compression seeing as how it is only voice you have to worry about.

Of course I love doing that on my own...creating my own, complete audio books all on one disc and then playing it back in the mp3 CD player in the car - amazing for long road trips.

yea audio books have been on cd for a long time now even at libraries.
sharing tapes is ick....dirty tapes!! never mind the pain in the ass of rewinding and stuff.
plus yea ripping cds is easy, ripping tape at 1x = painful man... not even worth the trouble.

I actually bought a cassette tape adapter for my iPod today. I don't want to replace my car's stereo at the moment, and I've had only horrible experiences with FM transmitters, so cassette adapter it is. I'm actually surprised how well it's working.
