So last night the TV just started stretchin' the picture horizontally. Words/pics are cut off on the left edge and the right edge.

This particular TV has no adjustments for this (yes, I've looked all over the set and menus) so I can only assume something's goin' inside??

???

Edit for TV info:

Mid 90's........27" CRT.......(no widescreen/flatscreen/bells/whistles, nuttin' hunny)

CRT TVs have these little magnets around in the inside that adjust the picture... you might want to open it up and move them around a bit to see if that helps.

Geez........I am so sorry gang. Between work & home I'm up to my arse in alligators & TOTALLY forgot I posted this!!!!

Thanks for the feedback.......(& for slappin' the troll) :D

Ya, I suppose any *guy* (hell, anybody) wouldn't mind being *forced* into buying a new TV, eh?? LOL!!!

For some info........

It's a plain-jane 27" CRT...(no WS, not bells, whistles, not even flat). It was a mid-line GE/RCA. It ain't great, but ain't bad & looks better to me than today's $149 27" CRT's. I might pull the casing off & see if one of those magnets moved around. If so/not, I might still pick up a new one.

My problem is that I really don't want to invest in a plasma yet.......(I think they're still coming down in price PLUS I'd have to decide what to do "Entertainment Center" wise and whether to ditch my current oak setup & buy something new or what).

In other words, once I decide plasma, it's gonna be a total wall makeover & I don't know if I wanna go there yet.

My other option is two-fold.

#1.) Buy another 27" CRT (maybe a flat-screen to be different) & be done with it

#2.) Buy a $99 entertainment center at Wally world that'll hold a 32" CRT & move up to 32".

What would you do?????????

Find your way into the service menu & see if you can correct it.

Have a test DVD handy? How bad is it overscanning?

Personally, I wouldnt bother with any form of Plasma TV. I think people just like to say..."Plasma"...and hear themselves doing it:p. If I was going to bother with flat panel, I would go straight to LCD TV

CRT's still prove to be the best picture quality and produce the deepest blacks. I would move up to a 32" while you have the excuse to do so. HD 32's are fairly cheap coming in at between $800-$1000 (maybe less if you find a discontinued model).

My opinion for bang for buck here

My two cents

Baked,

OK, that was just plain good!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Viper,

.........I've gone thru every menu I know of.......(again, there ain't a whole lot there).......as well as scanned the body of the set. There's a V-hold way in the back and a manual brigtness next to it but those are the only 2 knobs on the whole set. The buttons on the front are channel up/down, volume up/down & power. Remote menu is pretty clear. Nothin' in there about drawing the picture back.

Plus I don't know what might have happened that it did that. One second it was fine & next second I noticed the picture had stretched. It's not constantly moving, just a one-time stretch.

No, banging doesn't help. Does nothing. Jiggling, talking sweet, twisting, shaking, etc. etc. All fail to do anything.

This article has information on how to access and use the Service Menu on several different brands of TVs. You might be able to do this on your TV. I guess it doesn't hurt to try since either way you'll need a new one. Note that messing with those settings too much can (according to the article) make your TV into a giant paperweight, so be careful!!

Cool, thanks J. Ya, it can't hurt to try. I'll simply play with the H-hold & see if I can bring it back. If not............oh well. Maybe it'll make a good garage TV........:D

Chances are it's a capacitor that's dried up, or a cracked solder joint.

Should be a simple and cheap fix for a competent TV repair shop.
