my turtle tragedy

I found a water turtle the size of a quarter, and put it in my car. He gets lost, and I assume that he died since I couldn't find him anywhere for 3 days. During the day my car warms up to over 120 degrees probably. No water or food, I just thought he dried up. I find him alive on the 4h day. Running around like it was no big deal. I quickly find him a container and fresh water to transport him home. On the way I stopped in somewhere for 20 min and left him in the car. I guess he got boiled alive. I mean to survive 4 days with no water or food, but die in 20 min in warm water is ironic at least. Man that sucks. I used to raise turtles, I guess I should have taken better transporting precautions. I should have left him on a dry surface or something. Too late now.

Desert tortoises (I'm assuming it was a desert tortoise) are a protected species and survive out in...well, the desert. Being in a hot environment with little or no water would not be a problem for him. Putting him in hot water, now I can see how that would be a problem.

My neighbor has one and it frequently wanders through our yard and has been known to hibernate in our garage under my toolbench for an entire winter. They are pretty hearty animals.

So what did you do with the corpse? In the turtle's honor, I think you should make him into something beautiful. . . like a rhinestone encrusted turtle eyepatch! As punishment, you must wear it for 4 days - the same amount of time the turtle suffered.

actually I didn't bury him, he is trying up in my front yard. If you would like, when he is dry, I can glaze him for you and send you him for a small but fair fee.
