My Turn With Desktop Shortcut Problems

OK! In the past couple of weeks, I've been having problems with Win2k desktop shortcuts that won't do anything when I double-click on them. This happens to the normal ones like My Computer, My Documents, Network Neighborhood and Recycle Bin, but also to some I have copied there such as Admin Tools and another one that points to an MP3 file folder on a remote computer. All other shortcuts for application such as Word, Outlook, etc. seem to work fine. The funny thing is that this is also the case when I try launching Explorer from the start menu, or when I double-click Admin Tools or Network and Connections from the Control Panel. However, if I run Explorer from the Winnt directory, then it works fine. I can't help noticing that all those shortcuts that don't work are tied in some way only to Explorer, so the problem could be limited in scope. In any event, I've checked the environment variables, and they're all OK. I've deleted ShellIconCache, but no change. I've checked the Security of those icons, and its all fine. I've made sure that the shortcuts point to the right place. Any thoughts?

Do other copies of links to these programs, applets etc work? or does say every link into My computer not work? likewise, if you click on say Routing and Remote Access on the start menu, does this link not work either? seems like i might have encounter this probem somewhere before.... Have you tried right clicking on one of the links and then clicking open/explore(in the case of a folder or Networking Neighborhood or My computer) very odd, have you tried jus re-installing win2k right over the top, that way it gets a fresh system install and you dont loose all your files? might not solve the problem, but it seems like something got screwd in the registry and jus needs to be fixed, doesnt seem to be too horrible of a problem to require a lowlevel format but annoying none the less :)
