Came home from work and found this in my yard.

That's the shed that houses my lawn mower. Thankfully it's still on it's foundation and only has a little bit of damage on one corner.

Looks like a chainsaw purchase is in my future.

Now I at least have some free firewood for the winter.

If there is a man made structure within sight, a falling tree will hit it. Never fails.

It had a bit of a crack down it for a while now. It was slated for removal this fall but some 40+ MPH winds yesterday sped up that process.

well its probably a pruning thing. a narrow V crotch is very weak. theres lots of bark in between that kind of split and well..they split and shouldn't be so far down on a tall tree.
