Long enough have I suffered with a 666 MHz HP Pavilion. I want to play some MMORPG(other than FFXI on PS2) along with the usual music/movies/surfing. After reading the wealth of knowledge here, I've come up with this for my first build. Please have a look.

I have a DVD-RW, Display I'll buy locally, floppy/keyboard/mouse...who cares.

CPU: AMD 64 3000 Venice (right price) LINK
Mobo: Epox 9NPA+Ultra (hella hype) LINK
Memory: 1x Corsair Value 1GB (a staple, but may go OCZ) LINK
HDD: Seagate 7200.8 250GB (great GB/$) LINK
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 5 Black/Blue (looks good) LINK
PSU: XCLIO 450W (cheap & ppl recommend) LINK
Video?: eVGA 6600GT 128MB PCIe (good brand) LINK
or
Powercolor X800GT 256MB PCIe (the 256MB) LINK

Price: ~$700 not shipped

Can't decide on the Video Card. There's sooo many options. Please help me with this!!!

Other than the GFX...am I a good little newbie(All compatible/reliable, no bottlenecking, still room for upgrading)???

Thanks for all the resources and peeping this thread. All suggestions/comments are very welcomed! ;-)

the X800GT is a better buy.

are you buying 1gb stick so you can upgrade to 2gb with another stick? if so, then good choice. if you're not going to add another 1gb, then get 2x512mb. its slightly cheaper and offers slightly better performance

everything else looks great

Mmm...

Get the Tagan 480w or the Antec Smartpower 500w... Worth the upgrade IMO.
and get the x800gt..

Like it :) The 6600gt is what I would chose. I would suggest a Spinpoint 160G HD for $83 and go for the Seasonic S12 500W.

Centurion 5 = NICE...but you should get the Athlon X2 if you could afford it. And you should get the powercolor x800gt. btw, the rosewill re501/502 are good psus for great value.

If the 6600GT is all that you need/afford. You should look into getting the ati X800GT. Costs less, performs better, overclocks like crazy.

Thanks for all the quick responses!

Looks like the X800GT is a go.

Alas, I gimped my PSU. Guess i'll go with the ANTEC Smartpower 500W. PPl say it's very quiet and still cheap enough for me.

The case, i didn't see the front is all mesh...so i'll just get the Antec SLK3000-B.

Hopefully I'll post when I get it built. Guess i'll need a web cam for that lol.

Thanks again, happy trails.

Good choice with the case.
It does very nicely as a silencers case.

That case is probably the favorite one I've owned - clean simple look with nice cooling and attractive price
