I woke up this mroning to try to get my yearbook out of my trunk but for some reason it wont open. THe key doesn't work, which has always been the case, I think, but the button doesn't work anymore either. I tried everything, from turning on the car, trying ot close it again, etc. etc. Does anyone know what the problem could be? The car is a 1991 Lexus LS400

Maybe it's the sticky blood from all the crusty old bodies you've been keeping in it. Try drying them off first, dude. It can get messy.

Do you have access to your trunk from the passenger compartment? If you do sometimes you can pop the latch with a long screwdriver.

this is off-topic (irony?) but i had a viper alarm on my truck and after a guy smashed the back of my explorer, i had to have the trunk/back hatch replaced. I never used my key to gain access to my trunk in spite of my remote, and my viper alarm finally died on me. I had to get into my trunk and after using my key, i realized it didn't fit. It dawned on me not too later that although they replaced the door, they used a new locking cylinder and didn't re-use/rekey my new one. I'm probably too late to go back to the dealer and bitch about it, but there are other things that i've put off that they messed up after the accident.

Ok, heres what you do:
Find a nice, heavy duty crow bar and place it under the edge of the trunk, right below the lock and pry really hard:D
Did I mention, that this should be done really late at night in a populated area where someone is sure to see you, and it will help if you have someone else drive the car to the chosen spot and you just walk up and pry the trunk open after the other person leaves:D

Really, though I don't know what to try if the button in the car doesn't work and the key doesn't work, start making some calls to locksmiths like was stated earlier and hopefully one of them can help you out.

okay, well this is really weird. I have two sets of keys, one for my sister and one for me. I guess mine is a duplicate, although it doesn't look like it was made at a key shop. Mine can start the car, drive, etc. but could never open the trunk. I guess someone locked the ability to open the trunk or something. I took my sisters key and unlocked it (it's like underneath the steering wheel or something), and her key can also open the trunk, which mine can't. weird... or i'm just stupid

She has the master key. Go the glove box, their should be some button to disable the trunk lock (for valets)

Hope this helps.
