Hi Guys,
After reading this forum for awhile I bought ASUS P4B266 and P4 1.8A.

I tried oclocking this baby for a week but high as I could gert was, 129 X 18 @ 1.725V.
So I thought I got a bad chip and I got a P4 1.6A as present last weekend.
I experimented it could only hit 2.3GHZ(144 X 16).
Can it be that I got unlcuky on both CPUs?

Here is what I have.

InwinS508 with 2 case fans
Sparkle 300W PS
1 X 256MB Corsair PC2400XMS
IBM 40GB
IBm 9GB
Leadtek Geforce3 Ti200
Audigy
Intel Pro100S NIC

I've got most things disabled in BIOS and overbolted ASUS mobo and raised DDR voltage to 2.6V.

Can Someone who has successfully Oclcoked 1.6 or 1.8 to2.4GHZ on ASUS P4B266 give detailed BIOS settings? I am hoping I messed there somehow. I am praying that both chips are not duds.
Please help guys, please...

Um what are you talking about? 2.3ghz on a 1.6a is good. That is 700mhz of overclocking. You can't be so greedy. As for the 1.8a, they don't seem to O/C as well as the 1.6a. You also have to take into account that it might be your rams and other components of your system that is holding you back. What type of cooling do you have?

Does it not post above those???

I would look at ps maybe....what are voltage being reported...

Also what are the temps??

I have a 1.8a @ 2.4 (fsb533) on a MSI 845 ultra and ran prime95 for 8 hours with no errors...

You may want to stress it to see if in fact you have stability at those speeds...prime will weed out bad temps and voltages....voltages seem to crap out early and temps a little later into the torture test..

Hi Thanks for the posts.

Well I've tried both Sparkle 300w and Zippy 400W and this doesn't seemt to help.

1.6 and 1.8 both post at 2.4ghz but need extremely high voltages 1.75, 1.775V!

1.6 fails prime95 after about 30min.
1.8 fais after 5 min.
temps are both 52C range with intel retail coolers.

I have tried higer FSB because I figure if it's not stable at 2,4 it won't be stable at higher FSB.

1 thing noticed is that under mbm cpu voltage with prime95 on, will immediately nose drive to 1.65v-1.6v range(from above). maybe my mobo is faulty?

I would say that if you are getting a stable 2.3 out of these chips, things are fine. no guarantees when it comes to overclocking.....and besides, 2.3 GHz out of those chips, especially the 1.6, is nothing to sneeze at.
