Yep. It's really horrible.
When I was going through middle school and high school my teachers would only let us use calculators to check our answers. We had to work everything out on paper step by step. Any step that was missing caused partial credit up to the point of the mistake. Only an answer was 0 points regardless of whether or not it was correct.
It sucked at the time because it took a bunch of work for the tests, but I can do most math without trouble and thank the schools for making the teachers do this.
