Ok, some details are a little sketchy since this was over a week ago.
Overall I really liked the trip. It's one of the top two vacations I've had (Washington D.C. was good too).
Some general comments:
- We flew non-stop Cleveland to London on a Continental 757 on the 12th. It's amazing how many people Continental jams on those planes.
- 13th went to Windsor Castle. Very impressive, the town is very nice too. Highly recommended. Also took a bus tour around London.
- 14th went to Harrods in the morning. Nice fancy store, but nothing special. Then went to the RAF Museum in the afternoon. Great museum (I can't believe the tube goes that far out of town), though the USAF Museum is better.
- 15th went to Portsmouth. Saw Arundel Castle from the train. It looks very impressive and I would like to visit it sometime. Portsmouth was nice, though I wish they had some modern ships to tour through.
- 16th went to Bath. I like high-speed trains.
Bath is cool, especially the baths.
Took a bus tour around the city, and it was worth it.
- 17th flew British Airways 737 to Munich, then grabbed a train to Garmisch.
- 18th met up with a German couple, hiked the gorge, hiked another three hours up the mountain, then took a cable car back down to town. I had a great time hiking, and the scenery was amazing.
- 19th just stayed around town, went shopping, had a nice time.
- 20th back to Munich. Went to the Deutch (sp?) Museum. Its amazing how huge the place is, and I really liked it.
- 21th bored with Munich (and most stores closed on Sunday), so back to Garmisch for the day.
We took the cog railroad to the top of the highest mountain in Germany (Zugzpitz?), walked around a while, and then took the cable car back down.
- 22nd flew back to London from Munich in a sweet little British Airways Embraer 145. Walked around Hyde Park some in the evening.
- 23rd went to the Tower of London, then walked around Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalger Square, ate in the Cafe in the Crypt, walked up to Leicester Square, took the tube to Covent Garden (god was that stupid and you Londoners should know why.
), shopped there for a while, managed to see the Queen going to the opera (saw her from under 100 feet away), and finally went back to walk around Hyde Park some more. Great day, and I recommend everything we did.
- 24th flew back to Cleveland on the tiny 757.
Overall I really liked the trip. It's one of the top two vacations I've had (Washington D.C. was good too).
Some general comments:
- The Underground in London is awesome. It's so easy to get whereever you want to go.
- British toilets are strange.
- British TV is amazingly bad. Bird watching on prime time would not last long in the U.S.
- Food was quite good overall, especially at this little restaurant we found in Garmisch.
- Who the heck lives on that street just west of Hyde Park????
- Trains are very, very cool, and we need a much improved public transportation system in the U.S.
- How is Nutella so good? Any why does it have to be so expensive back home here?
- Why isn't Multivitamin juice sold in the U.S.?
- It's amazing how much thinner people are in Europe than the U.S.
- I think that's all.
