I just had my 2nd floor entirely renovated with a brand new master bathroom put in and 2 months later my Kohler toilet gets clogged after a few 'dumps' in the bowl.....I plung it and it clears up immediately but then several days later again it ...CLOGS!!......wtf!?

I tried snaking it and even tried special drain liquid for toilets and all seemed to work just fine to give smooth flowing flushes but then every few days after a couple of 'dumps' in the bowl.....its clogged again!

My old toilet on the first floor never has this problem and we must have torn that thing apart with devestating dumps in the past 15 years......why is this happening to my new toilet and WHAT CAN I DO???

thanks!

Your nick is so appropriate.... ;)

New toilet's just plain suck. It all has to do with a new water usage requirement of less than 1.6 gallons per flush. Older toilets (like your old one) use upto 15 gallons per flush! That is why they work so much better... most people with new toilet's have to flush several times to get the stuff down. To me that defeats the purpose of having a low usage toilet. But that is just IMO.

We used to have a POS Kohler toilet which would plug up easily.

Then the tank had a leak so I went all out and bought the Lexus of toilets, the Toto Drake, worth the $239 price tag.

if you want a good toilet

get one of those commercial ones.

like the ones at school or something

heavy duty flush and the works.

Believe me it does matter, ours features the G Max flushing system which is probably propoganda but it flushes quickly, quietly and is powerful.

I also got the BMW of toilet seats, the Toto softclose toilet seat cost a whopping $50 but I was able to bargain my way down to $38.

Yes, go get an industrial toilet or something similar for your bathroom. They typically make some that are low-flow toilets -- 1 gal per flush or so -- but they flush with such power and force that it makes up for it. (You could easily lose a TV remote down one)

My toilet does the same thing, but the problem mine has is that my little shi--- err, brother used to clean his ears with Q-tips and instead of putting them in the trash can he'd flush them down the toilet. I had to get in there with the snake; I must have pulled out 100+ Q-tips and the thing still backs up, so I don't even know how many more are down there.

you flush between dump and wipe. clogs are almost always too much stuff going through at once.

my roommate clogged the toilet once and couldn't find the plunger; he went to the kitchen and grabbed a garbage bag. he then proceeded to place his arm into the bag and dig it out....so gross, the bag fvcking broke.

anyways i can't believe my roommate actually told me the story, if i did something like that i'd take it to the grave.

This guy has an entire site devoted to toilets.

Rossman, thanks for the TOTO tip. I'm just starting to remodel my downstairs and have been looking for a good toilet recommendation. I have two American Standards and an Eljer, all 5 gallons. The Eljer is as sensitive as a marine toilet. It looks the best but is crap with crap.

You need to flush as your dark matter hits the water. That's how I keep from clogging the toilet.

I emailed ole' Terry with a serious inquiry about a toilet purchase, and he never got back to me! :frown:

You're welcome.

I found out about Toto by total accident. I was bored one evening, channel surfing until I ran across a toilet show on the Discovery channel, learned that Toto is the largest and makes the best toilets. So it stuck in my head. Did some research online, called the local plumbing stores and they ALL recommended Toto if I want a powerful, reliable and quiet toilet for residential use.

We installed the Toto Drake about a month ago, and to this day I am still amazed at how powerful that sucker is.
