My Thoughts On Youtube and Google Video

Today is just another one of those days where I find myself searching for videos on Google and then end up looking through the list of videos examining the url of each and hoping that for the most part what I found is available on Google Video.
After the Google purchase I personally expected Google to start migrating Youtube content to Google Video, instead what I am observing now is that it looks like Google would prefer have Google Video become Youtube's portal. I think Google Video's UI is far better than that of Youtube's UI both aesthetically and functionally and I hope that at some point it would become possible for Google Video's UI to be able to interface with both databases in order to let Google Video users take advantage of the content already available on Youtube and vice versa .
I don't expect Google to make Youtube Google Video, that might alienate a good deal of Youtube's users to something of similar taste however I don't see the harm that can come from allowing both site users to access both databases if Google is planning on keeping both for a while as they are doing right now.

So ATOT, what say you? :)

I also prefer Google Video's interface. The feature that allowed a user to start watching video at any point, without buffering the entire clip, was quite useful. Got a clip that's 5 hours long and you want to watch the credits? No problem! No need to buffer the whole thing, just move the slider to the end!

I also don't like Youtube's seeking. Sometimes it jumps by 10 seconds, sometimes 30. I think Google Video's precision was within 2 seconds.
Overall it seemed like far superior technology.

The Youtube UI crashes often for me, many times I end up having to force refresh a page for the video to work properly, and it's true it takes so much more time to load a long video on Youtube than it does on Google Video.

I prefer YouTube because of the 'community' feeling. I have a following over there and that's something that Google Video can't give me.

ETA - No offense taken Balt (below). ;)

I like YouTube's interface better, but the "community" kinda stinks. If you check the most viewed videos of the day, it's usually full of anime, soccer clips, or lonelygirl15 type of crap.

Also now that Google has taken over YouTube, media companies know there is some money to be gained from a lawsuit and YouTube has been removing copyrighted content a lot faster. The copyrighted content is really 99% of what is interesting on YouTube. I don't know why companies like Viacom think a 60 second clip from South Park posted on YT could do anything but help get more viewers for their show, but whatever.

edit: No offense to SmoochyTX, I was already typing my response before her post was published. ;)
