I remember thinking the idea of background music on a site was awesome. And animated gif backgrounds, tiled, backgrounds.

I made a site for a local hockey league and it had "the good ol hockey game" song in the background. This was before copyright got ridiculous. I doubt I'd get away with that today.

I would take the 90's, 2000's annoyances over today's annoyances though. Modals, and floating boxes are some of the worst things now. Another trend is headers that stay on top and just eat up vertical space for no reason.

I had about 18 sound clips from my favorite games play in HTML5 on my site, but decided against it due to the annoyance on the index and the copyright shit. It was cool though. It played randomly on each page load. On Christmas I use my Christmas theme and four Christmas sound effects play though. Like bells, a HO HO HO and some other crap. LOL!

I have my own babe pic thread and did add a "NSFW" audio clip that plays when you go there. It's just an oh baby, but I wouldn't want my computer audio on at work looking at my babe pic thread. Besides that GET TO WORK!
