Has anyone ever tried calling the IRS or state taxation department to see what the heck is going on with them?

I tried that with the IRS and NYS. Both give some message that basically says they have no info on it.

Thats what you get for filing at the last minute. ;) As shimsham mentioned you can check about the status online. They also have a 1-800 number.

When did you file? It's not uncommon for it to take awhile the closer you filed to April 15th. Be patient.

On the 18th.

I was being patient for a couple weeks. But I have to move and start work, but won't be getting paid until June 3rd.

If you filed late for the Fed, then you will have delays anyhow. They will manually double check everything prior to issuing a refund. As far as I know, the deadline as 15 April.:p
Paperfiling for the Feds will take 6-8 weeks for a refund that is not direct deposit. Requesting direct deposit will shave 2 weeks off that time frame.

Do not expect anything until possibly mid June under normal filing guidelines. Breaking the rules could easily add 1-2 months more. Until they (IRS) finsh hand processing those that were filed on time, yours will not even be thought of.

The State of NY may act the same way (however, I do not know what their deadline was).

Sorry for telling it like it is.

Had you visited the tax thread earlier this year you would have:
1) been advised
2) know that I do not pull any punches.

It's ok.

I've just been living off of savings since last August, and they are running out.
