tamron_17mm_2.8_AF <--100% crop
tamron_17mm_2.8_MF <--100% crop

seems to be fine at 50mm
tamron_50mm_2.8_AF <-- no crop
tamron_50mm_2.8_MF <-- no crop

I know it's not the camera because focus is correct with my Canon 10-22
canon_17mm_4.0_AF <--100% crop
canon_17mm_4.0_MF <--100% crop

i knew something was off since a lot of my honeymoon shots came out a bit out of focus.

is Tamron's repair dependable? or should I just return this one and get a new one?

but Im still very impressed with this lens
This was taken handheld. Probably can be better, but I like it!

The only solution is to get a 50d so you can adjust the sensor for the lens.

It is pretty common for aftermarket lenses like tamron and sigmas. I think the procedure is usually to send both the lens and your camera to them and they will calibrate the lens for your camera. If you're happy with the sharpness of the lens, I'd send to tamron to have them calibrate it.

EDIT: It only seemed to be off on the wide end. 50mm seemed fine to me.

Microadjust won't completely fix the issue because it applies one correction factor across the entire zoom range. If your lens isn't focusing correctly at the wide end but is focusing correctly at 50mm, then using AF microadjust could mess it up at 50mm.

if it's easy to return, do a swap until you get a good one. if it's a hassle, send it in to tamron. I don't think I've heard anything really bad from any of the major 3rd party folks in that regard.

Send the lens to Tamron instead of playing the lens lottery again.
