My take on the UN opposition, terrorist threat

Just like to share my thoughts on the situation at hand. I am an American, just as a pretense to the international theater of ATOT.

The French, Russians, Germans, and Chinese are all taking this opportunity to do something they otherwise cannot because they lack the political, economic, and military might to do so.

They are all collectively mustering up a defiant "F!!!! YOU" to America, just because they CAN do it and all the while hide behind the facade of peace.

That's all this is. Regardless of the issue, these immature countries and their foolish leaders are "automatically nay saying anything the other person says", which even Monty Python knows is not a real argument. An "argument is a collective series of statements intended to establish a proposition!"

Only an true Python fan could bring Monty Python into this, but i think that the intent of the opposing countries is obvious. That is why they haven't proposed anything to the contrary other than the status quo of inspections, which are a JOKE in the first place.

How can we honestly expect to find anything if we tell them where we are going to be and when? Does anybody actually expect the UN inspectors to find anything? Sadaam would rather (and has already) kill his family members than be caught with his pants down on something like this.

Also, as for the terrorist thing, right now I think we are perfectly safe. Sadaam has already told every possible anti-American terrorist threat he can to not attack right now. An attack on America, or another other involved UN country, would instantly sway support in favor of military action. Not until we back off of Iraq or go ahead and invade should we actually worry about further terrorist actions against the US.

They are against us because they can and because they fear it. People think that if we look the other way, all our problems will disappear. Guess, what...they won't.

And you bitch cause other countries don't think we have a reason to go to war?

No, i don't think we're truly safe. if we were truly safe, we wouldn't have ANY terrorist threats at ANY time. Right now Saddam is using the opposition to toy with America.

Saddam is irrelevant. The Saudis are the real problem, but we need to play nice with them. The same goes for North Korea. Saddam is a convenient target because he's a bad guy (one of many) who isn't really much of a threat to us.

The French, Russians, Germans and Chinese have had wars on their territory in the past 60 years. We haven't. I'm sure there's a lot of F#$% you in their motivation, but without some kind of restraining force I'm not sure what we would turn into. To us war is a TV show that you turn off if you get bored with.

We're already apparently murdering prisoners in Afghanistan. Who knows what goes on at Gitmo?

Make no mistake about it, we are not the good guys anymore.

Go back to whatever leftist group meeting you regurgitated this propaganda from and finish reading chairman maos little red book.
Or you can back your words up by shipping your sorry ass off to Iraq and becoming one of the many human shields to stand next to radar and anti-aircraft installations.

Ya gotta admit... Those idiots are BALLSY idiots. They've gotta know that we aren't gonna say, "hmm, better not bomb that military installation because there's some moron from the US standing there waving at us."

'Course, if I was steering that bomb, guess who might as well have a big red target painted on his head? 😀

Do you have ANYTHING at all to support that claim, or are you prone to just making sh!t up to get your point across?

People like you go so far towards proving true the old addage, "If you repeat a lie often enough, people begin to believe it."

The fact is, there is no evidence, not even shaky circumstantial evidence, of a link between Saddam and Islamist terrorists.

If you wish to be taken seriously, you need to have credibility. Repeating manufactured claims like a trained parrot is not the way to obtain it. Try learning a little about the situation before you decide to debate it.

Hah. Proving my point, I see.

No, we're not the good guys. But we're not as bad as the bad guys either.

Begin world peace, nuke Saddam first. You say Saddam isn't a threat to us. I disagree.

He's a very powerful indirect threat. Consider that others might take his example and decide not to follow established rules after we win engagements. Our effectiveness at treaties will go out the window. Our rules won't amount to anything. It's kind of like unenforced laws. How many of you speed? <raise hands now> How many of you would continue speeding if you got caught every time you sped? <hands go down>

He's also an indirect threat because of the potential for supplying equipment to others who might use this equipment against us. We experienced a similar problem with Iran, who wound up turning our own weapons against us. Not that it was a critical blow, but definitely enough to piss us off.

Pretend we're the British army in the colonial era. We're capable of winning or at least tying every frontal assault scenario. What we *aren't* capable of, as demonstrated by Vietnam, is taking over another America. We can't win where smart opponents engage in intelligent enough tactics that they won't hit us head-on. Why isn't Sadaam dead? We've been after him since '92. Why hasn't Osama kicked the bucket? These people know how to hide.

Whether or not we go to war is always a tough call. I back Bush's decision, whichever route he chooses. We can't allow people we've defeated to bully and BS us around indefinitely, and it's reaching a breaking point in light of terrorist activity.

And as far as Sadaam telling anti-Amerrican terrorists to back off, that just doesn't sound like Sadaam. I doubt he'd do that. I don't think he cares, personally. I don't think he's showing in his actions and in his words that he cares whether or not the United States is provoked again. Because he knows he can just run off and hide if he needs to. He did it 10 years ago, and he'll do it again. If Osama can hide out, so can Sadaam.

xirtam - I'd almost tempted to attack your post, because a couple of the phrases you used riled me, but.... damn, a well reasoned post on ATOT. I could almost die of shock!

But while I agree with you, a couple of further points are needed.
While Saddam is indeed a problem that the world needs to face up to, he is about to be attacked because that is a politically expediant thing to do. The problem is, to achieve multilateral support (and to minimise any impressions of short-term expediancy directing foreign policies) the US must persuade the rest of the world that Saddam is currently the no.1 danger to the entire world. And the problem with that is.. well. he's obviously not.

Saddam is not an immeadiate threat to Belgium, or France, or New Zealand, or... anyone, the US included. That does not mean that he should be let off the hook by being ignored, but it does make it harder to persuade people that they should focus their efforts and resources on a war with him when they have more pressing concerns (recession, regional conflicts and worries) of their own
