Hi all I have just got a new Dell Insprion 530 desktop and I think I my have fooked it up.I got it cheap as I had a sound card and graphics card to go in at home. Now here is the problem while removing the crappy card Dell had fitted it caught several traces on the mobo and took enough of the layer to reveal two of the copper bits underneath they are very tiny scratches but on looking I couldn't see any breaks in them and they appear to be intact. The traces go directly to the audio plugs I tried all of the audio sockets and everything is working correctly and I have covered the exposed area with some nail polish. My question is bearing in mind I have a PCI sound card fitted and the onboard audio disabled should I be worried by this guess I am a bit paranoid but I just need my mind put at rest one way or the other thanks.BTW the machine appears to be booting and running ok touch wood.

It seems that you haven't done any permanent damage to the board. Lucky you. If you've ruined the board then you would have run into some kind of trouble. Keep an eye on it but my guess is that you got away with that one.

I was hoping this was about discovering you had a woeful tail. The only problem I see was putting nail polish on a pc board. Hopefully there won't be any chemical problems like delamination.
