I just got a thunderbird 900 and an abit KT7. before putting it in, I notice there is a light dent on the right side of the cpu. not on the corners, but just the middle of the side. I stick it in anyway and it works fine at 1050, but when I run sandra, windows tells me it's created an error and will close, thing is, it runs anway. I've played about an hour of quake 3 and did the torture test with prime 95. Is my sisoft sandra error because of windows or because of the dent in the t-bird? should I exchange it? anyhelp is appreciated. thanks

Are you really sure that its a dent in the cpu ??. Silicon simply doesn't dent, it breaks. It could be a flaw in the polishing process, but I seriously doubt that the silicon has a dent.

I can't post a picture b/c I don't have a scanner or digital camera. But I'm sure it's a dent. If you run your finger nail along the side,it will get stuck in the little dent. it's probably half the width of a dime and goes in about that far as well. it's really small, but it's definitely there. my t bird only passes the prime 95 torture test at 1000 now, which worries me. the first day, it did 1100, the post day it did 1050, now only 1000 . . . . time for an exchange?

See if redoing the pencil gets your CPU speeds back up. Better use something that is more permamanent.

My Duron ran 50MHz slower after the pencil was used for a day. With some conductive goop, I got that 50MHz back for good.
