I need suggestions on what components, cpu, motherboard, RAM, and videocard to get. My budget is $800 to $1000. This system will be used for everything except for gaming and it will not be overclocked. I am not religious about AMD vs Intel, etc.

Any help would be appreciated!

So you're not going for gaming eh? Well then I think that an nforce board with the IGP would do fine. I'd say get 2x256MB PC2700 since you're not going to be overclocking, that should be pretty cheap. A Lite-on 52x CDRW would do, and maybe a 16x DVD if you plan to be watching movies. A good 17" CRT, a WD 80GB SE harddrive, a good set of 5.1 speakers should fit into your budget.

For a CPU, get an 1800+ or anything cheap.

So, scratch the LCD, but a 19" is feasible, even with 1gb of ram
 
I would highly recommend 1 gig of PC2700 RAM (2X512MB Samsung Original ~ $150) and a WD or maxtor 80GB hard drive (~$100) - space runs out quickly and hard drives can be used indefinitely.

EDIT:

Also, don't get the Samsung 753DF monitor, get the 700NF it's only about $50 more but it is way better.

Remember it's better to spend a little more on monitors and hard-drives as they tend to stay with you from upgrade to upgrade and system to system
