My switch died... what should I replace it with?

I have a KTI KS-150, which I think is dead. (I'm getting no connectivity on 3 ports and huge packet loss on the last 2. Is there a way to test it?) I have no idea what I should replace it with. I need at least 4-5 ports. I have 2 comps now but plan on getting another in a few months. On these comps, my roommates and I will be playing online games, running a VOIP of some type, and listening to streamed music at the same time. I was told to get a router/switch but I don't know much about these. I don't really want or need a wireless one though. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I'm trying to stay under $50 but I don't mind spending more if I need to for good quality. I'd like to be able to use this device for awhile. My KTI lasted me 6 years.

From your description it might be that you need a Router.

You shiuld describe what type of Internet you have, and how are you conncetiing with few computers.

Might be that you would like to do a little reading.

The whole thing should look like this.

I have Cox Cable Internet. From reading what you posted Jack, I think I need a Cable/DSL Router. I looked at the pic you posted and mine was setup a little different but still worked. My connection was ISP --> Cable Modem --> PC 1 (enters through PCI lan card, exit through built in lan port on MB) --> Switch --> PC 2.
Two silly questions though, will the router you posted Jack be able to handle 2-3 computers that are all running say Counter-Strike/WoW, internet radio and Ventrilo (VOIP) at the same time? Also with that router, do I need to get wireless cards or can I still use my lan cables, I saw it had 4 ports so I assume so. Just want to be sure. Thanks again.

You do not need to use the wireless part of the Router there are 4 wired ports.

The Router would handle few computers runing WOW. I do not know about Internet Radio, and Ventrillo, since I do not use these gizmos on my Networks.
