Soon after Albert Pujols hit his monster homerun, i ordered my 9300 for $2400 shipped (30% off coupon at checkout). With the combination of the new comp and the pujols homerun, i did about 50 fist pumps last night. Sweet system imo...

17" Display with True Life
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Pentium M 2 ghz 2mb L2 cache
1 GB DDR2 ram
100 GB 7200 RPM HDD (20% off yesterday)
DVD/CD burner dual-layer
256 mb 6800 GO GFX
Audigy 2 ZS notebook in PCMIA slot
Stock internal sound with stereo speakers and woofer
9-Cell battery w/memory key (free MK right now)
Additional 9 cell
A/B/G wifi card + bluetooth card
3 year warranty w/3 years complete care

Its essentially an XPS M170 when i oc the 6800 a lil. Thanks.

EDIT: Can anyone reccomend a case for this beast? I plan to go mobile with that ~5+~5 hour battery life in office apps or ~3+~3 in intense gaming.

Granted, I purchased this m170 through the military AAFES site, which only qualified people can shop, and you also have some extra cost hardware and 3 year warranty.

FYI, the 6800 Go is clocked at 300 core/600 ddr memory. The 6800 Go Ultra runs at 450 core/1.06 ddr3 memory. There will be some oc'g room, but you will not get anything near these speeds. Check HardOCP for reviews of both video cards; you'll be surprised at the performance differences. I would have stuck with the base LCD - that way I could have run games at the native resolution OK. At 1900x1200, the 6800 Go will struggle greatly with all the latest games. But I bought this lappy for gaming, so the much greater video speed will suit me well.

Your right about one thing - except for LEDs and case design they're basically the same notebook. When I configured a 9300 comparably equipped, it was priced higher than the m170.

I saw all your posts prior to purchasing. You may feel you've gotten a pretty good deal, but trust me when I say you'll find a better price on this system in a very short period of time from now. That's the downside of computing technology - you're next computer will be MORE powerful and you'll pay LESS!

The review i read, i can't remember where, said that a less powerful system (like 1.7, 512, and 6800 go) can run HL2, Doom 3, etc on high pretty good. I dunno about resolution but it should do alright.

Also, i am hopeful that a 7800 GTX or later upgrade will be possible. So it will play games pretty well for 1-2 years, and then i will upgrade...

EDIT: Its not really meant to be a gaming rig persay but it games alright and i will game on it.

The 7800 Go GTX was an option on the m170 for $350. I didn't choose that card because the 6800 Ultra was all I needed.

We both should be able to upgrade to the GTX when available - 9300 and m170 share chassis and power. The PCIe modules are common to both. Beware, though, that if either of us do upgrade we will pay a healthy surcharge through Dell. By the time I'm ready for that I'll probably just buy a new laptop.

Let us know how your system works for you when you get it. I'll do the same. I'm sure there are many people that come here for just this type of info. This will be my 2nd Inspiron; I'm typing now on my 8200 which I've owned for 3 trouble-free years. Someone at work will by it once I get my XPS.

Good Luck and happy 'puting!
Dennis
