My supermicro sc-750a case fan is too loud, any suggestions for peace and quiet

I think it's the fan for the power supply. I was wondering if anyone else who has this case has swapped a different fan or power supply or something just to quiet this thing down a little.

Thanks,

I bought an Addtronics 7896a (same as the Supermicro you got, just different brand name) from Jim a little while ago.
Did the case come with a 120mm fan on the bottom front? I think that might be the culprit, as the powersupply fan *should* be temperature sensitive, meaning it goes faster/louder when it needs to and slower/quiter when it doesn't.

you can try swapping the PS but i don't think that would help too much.

If you have any other fans in there, i would check their specs first. If you decide to change any of them i'd recommend getting Panaflo's as replacements, but they're a little pricy. If fans ~30db are okay for you, you can get generic 92mm taiwan fans on e-bay for about 2 bucks each, including shipping. 92 mm panaflos usually end up around 12 bucks each, *not* including shipping.

Squirrel Dog, I totally agree that it's an awesome case, but my room is only 16x9 so the loudness really fills the room. I just thought there might be another solution with out sacrificing the performance I'm getting now.

I heard lining styrofoam around the case helps (cheap at home depot <$2.00)

If you can keep from electrocuting yourself, you can open the power supply and replace the fan. A Panaflo L1A is what I suggest, you can get them from TeamAwe

First check to make sure that's the problem. Unplug the other case fan(s) and see which one is making the noise.
