My suitemate just gave a homeless guy a free meal.

My suitemate and I went to Taco Bell and just as we started driving to go back to the dorm, a guy walks near us and asks us for a quarter so that he could eat. I was going to give him a the change that I had in my pocket (~50 cents), but then my suitemate goes, "I'll tell you what. I'll buy you a meal." So, we go back into the restaurant and the homeless guy orders #6 on the menu. And then we chatted a bit and left.

I really didn't expect for him to do that. He's a pretty devoted Christian, but I just didn't think he'd do that. We need more people (Christians or whatever) like him. I just thought I"d share this, because you all seem to bash Christianity.

Your friend is a generous person, and we don't all bash Christianity.

yeah, go into the P&N forums if you are looking for the religion bashers. (infohawk)

That's very kind of him...and as much as I might bash Christianity (not here though), that isn't exactly something related to being religious.

Tell him to come to seattle, pike place between 1st&7th streets. I felt sorry for homeless people before i moved here.

Christitanity only gets bashed when weak people think it will save their lives. Like everything else in life, moderation is key.

damn, ain't that the truth!

That's not true. I think you'll find that in almost all the religion threads that pop up here, name-calling and insults start without anyone shoving it down people's throat that they're going to hell because they don't believe in God and whatnot. But you know what, that behavior is probably the result of religious people having done that to them earlier, so if that's what you meant then I agree with you.

Nice of him, but I learned a long time ago to ignore homeless people/shaddy people who call out to me.

I'm the same way. The way I figure it, there's plenty of shelters and kitchens to go to. There's also enough low level jobs and government cheese out there to where a person doesn't have to go homeless and hungry.

You dont have to be christian to do nice things.... Ive bought meals for homeless people before. Its just about being nice to people who have had some bad luck.

Well it just proves your Friend is a more compassionate (sp?) person than you. Your friend bought him a meal you would have bought him 3/4 of a taco.

I seen a homeless man digging out of the dumpster at a local gas station, so I went in and bought him a sandwich.

When I gave it to him, he just looked at me in a funny way and said "Thanks"

Nonetheless, I felt good the rest of the day.

(Not religious either)

#6.. my favorite combo.

Didn't #6 used to be #9?

😕

No, I'm serious. Last time I was at Taco Bell, they re-arranged their menu board. A few of the combo meals disappeared and they had little signs indicating: "was meal ##".

Much more factors into it than just compassion. Intelligence, experience, and the mood & state of financial affairs they were in at the moment are just a few of the bigger ones.

Good for your suitemate. I think that some of the people who bash Christians are mainly bashing the hypocrisy of the "Christians" who give the religion a bad name. I'm not really a religious person, but that's sort of how i see it. Of course, there will be both good and bad to every religion, sect, group, etc.

Your story kind of reminds me of this one time...when I saw this one homeless dude at an intersection holding up a sign...I tend to not give homeless people money but I had a box of Girl Scout Peanut Butter patties on me..so i gave it to him. He immediately put his sign down and just walked away from traffic...holding onto the box of cookies. It really made my day to make his day.

cheers,
KiM
