My subwoofer keeps shocking me ever time I touch it

It just started today. I checked all of the connections and none of them are lose. I haven't added anything in over 2 months and I can't think of anything that would be different

There really isn't anything around that I can ground myself on, but I haven't needed to since I got it

Any ideas?

I get shocked by almost everything in the winter time. It's possible it's something else but it may just be the lack of humidity.

Are you touching the amp plate of the subwoofer? Or the box itself? (in terms of which finger gets shocked). You could just have a ton of static charged on you from the dry humidity and since the subwoofer is grounded through the wall, the charge will ground through the subwoofer if that is what you touch first.

Its probably the lack of humidity then. It got super cold here (single digits during the day) so thats probably why. Thanks guys

???

If it's grounded properly it WILL shock you. You're grounding yourself by touching the amp (in this case the volume, close enough) as the chassis is the ground.

It's just the cold dry air and static electricity causing this.

yes, that is normal. If your heat has kicked on, the air has dried even further! If you have carpet, the effect is made worse, you will discharge the static whenever you touch a grounded device. I've restarted my computer a couple times already by just touching the case.

Well, is it more of a LARGE ZAP or like a constant body shaking experience. The first one causes no harm. The second one however can potentially kill you if you keep your hand on there :p

I have the same problem.

What really scares me is the shock I get every time I touch my PS3. I get shocked turning it on. Shocked ejecting a disk. Shocked putting a disk in the drive. I'm scared I'm going to nuke something one of these time.

:(

Get a humidifier if you're worried about shocking yourself, your sub, or your PS3. In all honesty, you probably wont damage anything. I'm sure the PS3 is designed as a computer would be (to have a grounded case/chassis). Same with the sub... so I wouldn't worry about it. However, it can get annoying, and studies have shown that the correct amount of humidity in the air has many health benefits. Just something to consider...
