What a dumbass. If I had to guess I'd say that a totally cold system with an athlon in it minus the heatsink would lock up somewhere during the boot process. 3-4 hours I don't think so!

<< Your customer was highly ignorant in his knowledge. That is not a reason to mock someone. >>

Isn't that the BEST reason to mock someone? i've been ignorant in the past as well but if I'm both ignorant AND arrogant then yes that is a perfect reason to mock somebody. Nobody knows everything but the guy who thinks he is does is first in line for a good mocking.

Oh, man. I work at McDonalds and a radio station, and while I get some oddballs at the station, McDonald's takes the cake.

I had a woman ask me what was on a "Big and Tasty" (I work in drive through, taking orders).

Me: "Ma'am, it comes with ketchup, mayo, onions, pickles, lettuce, and a slice of tomato."
Her: "It doesn't come with meat? Why doesn't it come with meat. I'm not a vegetarian."
Me: "It has meat ma'am."
Her: "I can't eat vegetarian burgers. I like meat on my hamburgers."
Me: "It has meat ma'am."
Her: "Does it have meat on it?"
Me: "(getting pissed)It has meat ma'am."
-pause-
Me: "And two pieces of bread, sesame seeds, and it comes with a wrapper. The entire thing is then placed into a bag, ensuring that it doesn't make a mess."

I could think of worse ones, but I've been up for 24 hours, and at work for 12. Anyway, fast food might not be physically or mentally (lol) demanding, but you have to have a *whole* lot of patience.

veryape: there are a few times the management has let us do that... but our vendor does not let us return physically damaged cpus, so any damaged processor we accept to exchange or return, we eat the cost... And our store is very low margin, so if we were to eat a proc every time a customer destroyed one, we would be out of buisness. I actually feel bad for a lot of customers and wish I could replace their cpus for them...but not this guy. he probably would try it again

fr: people do get pissed off... but this guy just got defensive and he was acting like he was cool cause he knew so much more than us

cloroxcowboy: other than the tone of our voices(which is sometimes hard to control... I was almost laughing but restrained it), we did not mock him so that he could hear us..... however, he DID mock my co-workers and was telling us we had no experience and couldnt be correct in what we were saying....inferring WE were idiots. He thought he was belittling us.
We also have signs posted in the store stating that we are primarily an OEM store, and our products require our customers to have a basic understanding of pc assembly, and that we cant be responsible for damage caused by inexperience... although a lot of times we let people exchange stuff anyways

Haha, I used to work at BK and one day I was taking orders when it was really busy. We were understaffed, as usual, by about 75%. Well anyway, my friend was working till on drive through and I was taking orders/ giving food and he was helping when he could. We got so backed up we told someone it would be 20 minutes before we could get to them. They were like " what" and we were like 20 minutes. They actually waited the whole time. IT helped out alot but later we had to make someone wait 10 minutes.

i happen to work at a large computer mail order firm and i called up our pre-sales tech support to ensure that, since we didn't have the 100MHz SODIMMs, the SODIMMS intended for a 133MHz machine would work (which they should unless theres some proprietary format to one of the modules, which could happen). so i call and ask, and tech says, no, it won't. i ask why, and they're like, because that other system needs 100MHz ram, so 133MHz ram won't work. and i'm like... ummm... yeah... sure... you've got to be kidding, is there any real reason? and they're like, no, its because 133MHz ram won't work at 100Mhz.

i decided not to argue and sold the customer the 133MHz ram.

<< What cpus were available 10 years ago? Maybe 286 or 386s could run hours without a heatsink. >>

I don't think they even had heatsinks for the really old ones.
