Dude that beeping mostly means your cpu is to HOT... DID you O/C your cpu by any chance?

i dont know its just a standard heatsink fan that was on the 550 mhz anthlon ,i just removed the 950 mhz and put back the 550mhz and NO beeps or errors perhaps i bought a bad chip ,because it did the beeps the day i recived it and installed it

you may need a better heatsink, the faster the chip, the hotter it gets. This is a slotted athlon right?

you can't take the heatsink/fan from a 550mhz cpu and put it on a 950mhz cpu without it getting WAY too hot. you should always put a heatsink on it which is specified for it's speed and model

Still a 200 watt PS can't be that good for a 950 Athlon and a Voodoo 4. I use those things on my old AT cases with vanilla Pentiums. Get a 300w or better.

try a different heatsink and fan
you may also want to pick up a AMD approved 300 watt powersupply or better

Your CPU is way too hot and you are running the risk of damaging it. Even if you return this chip and get another one you'll have the same problem.

Get an AMD approved heatsink/fan with some thermal paste/pad and install the CPU correctly. Wish I could give more detailed advice but don't know much about AMDs other than they run way hot and need ample cooling.

ps - about the guy who was tired of the beeping and just removed the speaker? That is just plain stupid.

Can you look in your motherboard manual or on the net for what that specific beep code means? Post the code and I'll try to look it up with ya!

post with this kind of syntax:

HIlong-LOWshort-HIlong-LOWshort, 3 second pause, repeat.

which translates to...beeeeeeeedoo, beeeeeeedoo, pause :)

from manual:

high frequency beeps when system is working ------------- CPU overheated, System running at a lower frequency

hope this helps. I still think it is overheating. Are you sure you got a HSF for a slot A athalon?

Rind, that beeping/buzzing noise is horrible! But, I have heard a beeping sound like that before because the RAM was set incorrectly. I had to move it to different slots until the bios would recognize the RAM. I was able to install windows, but most of my programs would crash. Most of the time programs couldn't install. And I would always get the error: "illegal error unknown" especially in M$ software.

To make a long story short, it was bad RAM :Q You might want to try another stick of RAM(if possible). Good luck!
