i can check the enable dma, click ok and exit out but once i go back in, it's unchecked again.
i also uninstalled ata 0 and rebooted to let it detect itself, after 2 reboots its back to the same pio mode 4.

my 2nd drive (raptor) shows up as DMA2
my 3rd drive (1tb wd) shows up as DMA6
my burner shows up as DMA5

what gives? any ideas?

what SSD is this you are talking about? Some of them had problems with SATA1 systems, is your system SATA1,2,3?

With a normal HDD it is a sign of SMART errors and Windows will begin throttling DMA speeds. In your case, I'd try a different cable and simplify. I also assuming that you are connecting this to ICH10 and not the Marvell as spec'ed by your P6X58D-E. Also turn off RAID support.

There are also ways to reset the DMA in the registry. Best of luck.
