My spelling has gotten more and more sloppy thx to spell check

i'm a hunt and peck typer.

but i noticed since Covid, i misspell words ALOT more on my desktop/laptop keyboard.
ie: fat finger the letter and the letter next to it

I guess 'right click on word and pick correct word' got me conditioned to not care as much anymore

I'd say the opposite - my spelling - which when I was younger was pretty terrible - has slowly improved, largely thanks to spellcheckers. There are quite a few words I used to regularly get wrong, but seeing that red-underline over-and-over again, slowly trained me to learn the correct spelling.

(Though, ironically, I realise am uncertain as to whether spell-checker should be hyphenated, one word, or two - and the damn spell checker isn't helping!)

(Also, the spell checker has a tendency to try and turn me into an American, e.g. trying to get me to put a 'z' in realise. No matter how many times I tell it otherwise, it somehow keeps reverting to US spelling)

I spent a lot of time posting on forums over the last two years and as a result my spelling has if anything improved with the help of "right click, search Google" lol.

As long as you came even remotely close you'll get your proper spelling in roughly 3 seconds.

The high school course that has been a lifelong benefit in my career, and personal life is typing.

I learned to type on a manual Royal typewriter that only had blank key tops, so looking for the right letter wasn't even possible. By the end of the semester, I could type 60 words per minute, without errors.

With a career in computers, starting with mainframes, it was an asset many lacked.

Now spelling is another side of the coin, but with spell checkers and other software that can be dealt with literally on the fly.

By the way ... 'alot' and 'thx' are not words and 'I'm' has a big I in front.

My browser underlines errors in red and a simple right click offers multiple possibilities to correct if there are more than one.

I've also noticed it will highlight an entire sentence or paragraph if words are out of order or odd characters are preset as some sort of grammar checker, but that only seems to happen in Xenforo forums.

Spellcheck has made me spend less time on it, so instead of mentally debating the options(and usually being right), I just type in whatever, and correct as necessary. The internet, or maybe just age has made me lazy, and less likely to comply with grammar rules. I use arbitrary capitalization, and have come to enjoy mashing words together to make compound words. The Germanic languages have it right. String the descriptors together to make a single word.

Are you saying you had Covid, and it has caused cognitive issues? If so, that is not surprising, and really sucks. Feel better my dude.

On typing: When I was in middle school, there was a stigma attached to typing class. When I expressed interest, my friends said "What! Do you want to be a secretary?!?" So I didn't sign up.

Mavis Beacon taught me to type many moons ago, and she can teach you too. Probably even better methods now?

no, never got covid (that i know of).

so for a short while, i tried to correct my spelling errors manually.
i still spell it wrong or i backspace/delete at the wrong point in the word.

right click and pick the correct word from a list is so much easier.

nope, i just leave it at alot and people know what i mean.

one of the few spelling mistakes i dont bother with.
the other is apostrophe's of contracted words like dont.
this particular error seems more and more like the norm nowadays

My iPhone typing is atrocious, but the built-in AI-typing guesswork nonsense is so good that I can get it right 95% of the time because it will auto-correct it as I type & hit space lol

Touch typing was a highlight for me in 8th grade. After you're decent at it you sense when you've made a mistake before you even look.
