my speakers make noises

I have a Santa Cruz sound card and Logitech z540 speakers. The speakers emit a weird humming noise, very low, so during normal use you can't hear it, but when playing DVDs or other stuff where I have to turn the volume up, it's very apparent. It's a weird pattern, too, not random noise. It's sort of a "hum-hum-hum-humHUM" that repeats over and over. It does not happen when the speakers are unplugged, but removing either the front or rear jack simply diminishes the noise, but it is still there.

I'm wondering, is this a malfunctioning sound card, or am I picking up interference from within the computer? The fact that it's a slow, cyclical pattern makes me think maybe it's from a fan or something, but I don't know. Any ideas?

It's probably because you have a soundcard with low signal-to-noise ratio.

I also heard its a problem with some logitechs. That hum could also be from the power coming into your speakers.

go to your sound properties, and disable stuff you dont use like "line-in", 'auxillary", etc...
