My sound goes bad after playing games over an hour

after playing games like call of duty united offensive , for an hour my sound starts to crackle and lag. for example when i shoot the sound effect comes a second later. Is this a problem with my sound card heating up? I have an ABIT nf7-s mobo using its onboard 5.1 sound.

Have you got updated mobo/sound drivers?

Is it Soundstorm or the analog AC'97 you're using?

What OS?

Yes, it could be. Although, my soundstorm did the same. I eventually got an Audigy2 because I couldn't make soundstorm work right. Most people have no problems though.

More than likely your southbridge is overheating. If it was a driver problem the problem would become apparent way before you were an hour into your gaming session.
