My Soon-to-be system

Athlon 3000+ Newcastle CG
ZANTEC 7000
DFI LANPARTY NF3 250GB
512mb stick of PQI TURBO PC-3200(2-2-2-5, based on samsungs TCCD memory, will add another 512 stick if needed later)
Seagate or Maxtor 200GB 7200RPM 8mb Cache SATA HD
Videocard- going to wait for 6600 series and x700 series come to AGP, might get restless and get 9800pro and OC it.
Aerocool Jetmaster ATX Black (gotta love the 120mm's)
Antec TruePower 480 Watt

Not worrying about optical drives yet, will end up getting inexpensive DVD+/- RW drive and a DVD rom drive, but that will wait, as I have a couple of drives that I will use at first.

I am planning on overclocking this puppy, hopefully to 2500mhz or more, and I feel pretty confident about the cooling system, as I will have 3 120mm fans pumping air through there like a jet engine, not to mention the zantec 7000 which ive only heard good things about. The ram I feel very confident will get me to DDR 550 or so at pretty impressive timings. Basically im expecting this puppy to run pretty nicely.

Any advice will be taken thoughtfully into consideration, so advise away.

Thanks, and wish me luck.

Get the 9800 pro, better than x700,

i have 5x80mm fans, its noisy, but keeps everything cool, im just looking for a tool that will turn my fans down on my vnf3-250.

seconded on the 9800 pro. I just got one, and wow, it blows away my 9600 pro.

well of course it does...the 9800 PRO has double the pixel pipelines and faster core/ram speeds. I'd definately wait for the 6600 GT though. Even OC'd the 9800 PRO isn't going to catch the 6600 GT. Heck, on most games even the 9800 XT can't touch the 6600 GT. Check out the recent Anandtech review of the 6600 GT. This little baby beat out the X800 Pro on alot of tests. And you can hard/softmod the 6600 GT (or so I've heard...) pretty well. Check out some reviews. http://www.anandtech.com/video...oc.aspx?i=2196&p=5

Good luck!!

P.S. I just got rid of my Dell Dimension 4100 this past weekend. Served me problem free since Jan 2001. You will be missed!!

Nice man, yeah the 4100 is solid for sure, and has given me a good run, but I need some performance.

Same reason I ditched mine. Just couldn't keep up with newer applications. Still, the only complaint I had with it in it's 3 1/2 years of service is that it didn't like Win2k when I had only 128MB of RAM. After I trippled that, it was fine. This new system should blow it out of the water though. Just need to get a better video card 😛

But yeah, back on topic, wait around for th 6600 GT. It really is a good piece faster than the 9800 PRO(tied the X800 XT PE in one test...funny!!)

Also, you might want to check out some other RAM. I've not heard anything about pqi. They could make decent stuff, but I'm unsure. OCZ and Mushkin are always a great buy. Kingston and Corsair are decent too.

One last thing. If I were you, I'd get a smaller HD and use the $$ saved to kick the processor up a notch or two. a 3200+ or 3400+ well get you a lil more speed, and (IMHO, being a guy who doesn't download much) 200GB is a ton of space...

Looks good. I definatly agree w/ waiting on the vid card and getting a 6600GT. If you get too anxious you could also try a 6800NU and see if you can unlock the other 4 pipelines.

As for the overclock...I wouldnt bank on anything, no OC is a sure thing. I dont know too much about PQI memory, but assuming PC3200 will run at PC4400 speeds is a lot...just my 2 cents. Although I have heard a lot of good things about the Athlon 3000+ CPUs for OCing. Good luck. Maybe check around and see if you can afford to just go ahead and get PC4000 (500mhz) so you dont have to worry about it.

Get what I got, Kingmax Hardcore PC4000. This ram is badass (runs at 250MHz @2.5v...that's hard to do)

Here is Anandtech's review of the stuff. Just make sure you get the PC4000, not the PC3700.

If you're looking for a really good overclock, PC3200 may not be able to keep up.
