So my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W5 5MP digicam just stopped taking pictures the other day. When I turn on the camera everything is fine, LCD lights up, lights look normal, nothing wrong...so it seems. I try to take a picture and then the LCD goes black (but doesn't shut off) and then an orange light blinks. I can't turn the camera off or anything. Have to take the batteries out to get it to shut off.

Any idea what the problem could be? Is it an easy fix? Sony wants like $200 to fix the thing :|

Too much for crap? I could crap in a bag and it would be better than most the Sony products.

Interesting. My CyberShot DSC-F828 has been the most reliable camera I've owned yet. It's fallen from >5', been hit by stuff, has been subjected to extraordinary sudden temperate changes, and god knows what else. And it's still ticking away like it's new. :)

Maybe that's my problem, I need to abuse it more :p

Just turned the camera on and when I try to take a pic the LCD does go black, but still has information displayed, such as megapixel size, picture quality, and disc capacity.

Maybe it's a shutter problem?

You have a bad CCD problem. My Sony F717 just developed the dreaded bad CCD. LCD is black with information displayed. It's widely known problem and affected many models. I'm going to have to contact Sony and get mine fixed.

Sony CCD recall

Canon was affected too. Sony made CCD for many companies including Canon, Fuji, Olympus, etc.
