Tonight while my son, my wife & I were at a Blue & Gold dinner his bearded dragon pasted away from a stomach infection. We were given some bad advise by our local pet store and fed him some mealworms. We later found out from a breeder that this was bad for him and his stomach was damaged by the mealworms exoskeleton. He was coughing up blood and finally pasted away before we got home.

My son is every upset about his death. I feel we are to blame because we didn't research the possibilities of feeding him mealworms that caused his death. I hope to find another one tomorrow to replace the one we lost today.

God Bless and Good Night,
Quixfire

This is a Horny-Toad or the Horned Toad, not the same as a Bearded Dragon.

Sorry to hear of your sons loss.

Sorry about your loss. I hope you can some how talk to the pet store and get some kind of compensation especially since you did not know it could harm your animal.

go to west texas and find a horned toad/frog. Those things are awesome. If you stick it in an ant pile it goes on a crazy feeding frenzy its fun :D

We fed our Bearded Dragon mealworms all the time.

What kind of substrate was in his cage? Sand? He probably got an impacted digestion tract and couldn't take a dump and died from that. He swallowed too much sand and it bunched up and blocked his pooper.

Reptiles are a pain in the a$$ as pets. I think you should get a corn snake or a boa instead if you really need another pet for your son. Try asking him if he really wants another one.

Don't even get me started about pet stores.

I had a guinea pig when I was 11 and I cried a lot when it died. :(

It taught me something about life, although I was still very young.

I am sure your son will get much out of the pet's death as well and make him a better person.

No sand or small rocks were in his cage.

Wow, your local pet store should hear about that.
They will the next imte I am in there.

The'll pretend to care, but in reality they're just out for a greasey buck like the rest of us (outside of the pet trade). It sounds like you know a breeder, why not get one directly.
