my son's pc will not run a bunch of games that it used to and which are within the required specs of the machine. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the games to no avail. the error message i get when trying to run the games goes something like this:

'spacestation has caused an error in spacestation.exe and will now close'....

could this be a memory problem?? in other words it tries to boot the application but for some reason can't and stops. the machine has 192mb of ram and i have a brick of 256mb that i could put in there..

thanks in advance for the help.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for you vid card, sound card, mobo, etc. etc. You might have to reinstall your OS.

i will try to update drivers again although i've done this already. put in new ram and it didn't help. very strange, i've never seen a pc stop running an application that it's run perfectly for a long time with no hardware/software changes...there must be a conflict somewhere in there....

I had something like this happen to my dad's comp about a year ago. Turned out that parts of his computer (including the vid card) got fried in a surge (even though we had surge protectors). I hope this isn't your case. :(

I'd assume a software conflict of some sort before replacing hardware right and left. I'd recommend backing up anything important on there, and reinstalling the OS (don't forget to also reinstall all the security updates, service packs, and compatibility updates as well).. Good luck!

Have you done something to your computer lately? Like installed new software or hardware? Maybe you've picked up a virus?

thanks for all the advice....we've done nothing to the pc other than my adding ram today which had no impact. my guess is there's some sort of driver/directx conflict among all the games he has but it's tough to find...

I have had the same problem. A reinstall of the os didn't do the trick, but come to think of it, it started after an update of direct x, a couple years ago. Guess I'll try to get updated drivers for the software again, to see if that will do it. thanks all, for the replies.
