My son is grounded

OutHouse

Lifer
I have been on him the past couple of weeks to stop throwing rocks. well last night he chucked a rock and hit the very back drivers side window on our Sienna. Glass exploded and it took us an hour to clean out the van. The window will be replaced tomorrow for a nice price of $260 + tax :| :| :| Not as bad as i thought it would be but still... :| :| :|

he will be 7 next month, but i dont think he thought he was going to make it to 7 when he broke the window. I was in the back yard and heard the glass shatter and ran to the front yard to see what happend. He was just standing there knowing full well he just made a bad choice, then when he saw me and my my mounting anger he knew he was dead meat.

how long is he grounded for? i say he needs to do some chores to help pay for that window.

also, no X-box or GameBoy 😀

i'm such a meanie.

Well to his credit he did say that he would give me all his birthday money to pay for it. Ill take it but just put it in his savings account.

Hardly a meanie. 🙂 Kids need strict discipline or else they will never learn.

punishment was.........?

solitary confinement in his room for one week. no TV or Nintendo.

Would the financial burden of having to pay for it be more meaningful?

Whether that means docking his allowance or assigning him an hourly "wage" and making him work it off, he should pay for it.

A good effort on his part, but it seems he needed to make a huge mistake to really learn why you told him to not throw rocks. I bet he wont be picking up rocks for a very very long time.

Nope, that is EXACTLY what I would do as well, if they don't hate life when they are punished then it isn't much of a punishment now is it?

beatings are the best remedy

Someone here said it once, I think it was M4H, in response to the comment that 'violence never solved anything.'

- "Bullsh!t! If violence isn't solving your problems, then you just aren't using enough violence."

Being grounded. I hope he got a spanking, too. Because verbal and restrictions don't seem to work since he didn't stop before.

**EDIT**
Sometimes a spanking has a more well perceived behavioral advantage because it is immediate action while the emotions and experience is still fresh in the mind. It will cause your kid to instantly put two and two together.

Chores and being grounded don't work that way, but they also are good ways of teaching, but is really dependant on what motivates the child to be good.

If the child is smart, he/she can easily find ways of manipulating situation so as to getting out of chores and being grounded, but a spanking is immediate.
