My Smartmedia card reader shows up as a CDrom

Using Xp,it used to work...last week.Now it shows up as a CDrom drive.In properties it shows all zeros for all the ports etc.I tried removing it but it just pops back.This is with the card reader removed from my PC.I tried removing it in safe mode.No go....This is the second card reader to do this.If I hook it up to my other PC,using Xp,it shows up as a removeable drive like its supposed to.Any idea on what to do?
If you need any more info let me know,inm typing this on the go,in a hurry.
