Sleeping Pills are evil, if you don't get a lot of sleep you will feel horrible when you wake up.

I've only used generic, but they had NO affect on me whatsoever...

I always feel "tired", so really they had no affect at all...I didn't feel any different :p

I work 3rd shift, so many times I've got to force myself to sleep during the day time. A cold house, dark room, fan running and ear plugs just don't cut it sometimes.
I use Melatonin, with good results. It's not as fast acting as sleep medications. When I start to feel drowsy I make sure and hit the sack. The drowsiness don't last for a long time. But it's long enough to help me go to sleep.

I recomend valerian root. I use it every once in a while and it works pretty well. I just take one pill about a half hour before I want to crash and then I am out like a light. The good things is you dont wake up all tired and groggy the next day.

I used to use Melatonin, but after a while it started to not work. Now I use Ambien.

Ditto on the Valerian Root. That stuff helps you get a nice, deep sleep during the night and doesn't make me feel all that awful in the morning. It also helps you have some really vivid, weird dreams, which is always a cool plus! :)

What's the diff between valerian root vs regular sleeping pills?

I pop a Tylenol PM when I'm having problems now.

Used to have insomnia and was taking Trazadone (sp?).

Best sleep I ever had is when I was in Fiji and had a bunch of Kava (the real stuff, not the pills you get here) with the locals. I have never slept as well as I did that night.

NyQuil gelcaps and sleeping pills are addicting esp if you stay up until Midnight, you're wide awake and have to wake up at 6AM.

Prescription strength stuff like Ambien or Sonata will knock you off your feet the first few times you use it. VERY powerful stuff. What's scary is you can get used to it if you take it long enough. The great thing about those though is that they only have a short burst of effectiveness before they burn off so you don't feel drowsy at all the next day. Over the counter stuff seems to take about an hour or so before I even begin to feel it and it stays with you well into the next day.

Valeran Root didn't do a thing for me personally, but seems to work for others. The hard part for me sometimes is falling asleep. Once I'm asleep I sleep soundly the whole night. I think most people who use Valeran Root like it because it seems to help them sleep more soundly. I think most sleeping pills are geared more toward helping you get to sleep rather than stay asleep (although they market them as being good for both.)

I use Tylenol PM as a back up for when I forget to refill my perscrition of Ambein.

I think that Tylenol PM would be to hard on the liver to take every day...I think.
