When there were about 3 minutes left of the class period for Constitutional Law, I took a sip of my drink since my throat was dry. I take medication in the morning that dehydrates me unless I drink a lot of fluids.

UF officially has a 'no food or drinks in the classroom' policy. However, it is hardly ever enforced - in fact, I have never seen it enforced or mentioned except for this one time. But, right when I took the sip, the professor glared at me and said loudly (as to make an example of me), "You have to get out. You may come back for other periods."

In high school, I got in trouble all the time.. and I never once gave a sh1t. It never made me feel bad in any way. However, this time I feel like crap. It's so miniscule, yet I can't stop thinking about it. It really sucks to get kicked out of a lecture.

Blah. I hope he doesn't decide to have something against me the rest of the semester.

give him a break, some people change their majors or have other requirements that make it necessary to go to school for that long of time.

took semester breaks for 2 semesters, changed my major three times, started with three years in engineering, had to take calc 2 three times, calc 3 twice, and diffyQ twice (I really suck at math)..

oh ya.. got into a car accident 3 years ago and hurt my neck

and, I didn't take college seriously enough (at least not enough to stay in engineering)

Yeah. I smoked my fair share of "other requirements" back when I was in college to.

I hate douche professors like that. This isn't high school. We're all supposed to be adults. If it's not mentioned on the syllabus that he will be enforcing that policy, then he should have simply approached you after class, or announced to the class that he enforces that rule and that anyone with food/drink in class will be asked to leave. A little communication about expectations goes a long way. I would not feel bad about getting kicked out, but I would definitely keep in mind that this is one of those professors who expects respect but does little to warrant it and act accordingly (read: kiss up).

I had run-ins with a couple of these guys.
One was subbing for another professor. We were in the computer lab where there is a strict "No liquids" policy for public lab times, but it was not usually enforced for CS labs, as most professors felt that we know to be careful. In any case, this substitute professor asked us to keep all drinks on the table at the front of the room. There is also a "consultant station" on the side of the room, where it is traditionally acceptable to leave your drinks, and was closer to where I was working, so I left my coffee there. At some point I walked over to the consultant station and took a sip, to have this "professor" throw a hissy fit. Admittedly, he specified the front table, so he was not out of line for taking action, but his response was needlessly forceful and unprofessional. He could have just told me that he meant front table only and told me to put it there or throw it away. In addition to bitching me out, he sent a nastygram to both the REAL professor AND the lab manager about how I was insubordinate AND have a bad attitude.

But here's the kicker. After apologizing to my real professor, he asked me to find the fake professor and apologize to him. When I went up to him and told him that I wanted to apologize for my behavior in the lab, he had no idea what I was talking about. When I reminded him what happened he simply said "Oh, that was no big deal. No need to apologize." If it was no big deal, why did you contact both my professor and the lab manager about it? I later observed the same professor sh!t-talking other students anytime they did anything he didn't like. He seems to believe he is teaching middle school students.
